Paper Label Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2021
The average paper label import price stood at $6,531 per ton in December 2021, growing by 16% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated a remarkable increase from December 2020 to December 2021: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +7.4% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, paper label import price decreased by -17.4% against August 2021 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2021 when the average import price increased by 103% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $7,905 per ton in August 2021; however, from September 2021 to December 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($22,875 per ton), while the price for Sri Lanka ($3,147 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+20.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Paper Label Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average paper label export price amounted to $9,775 per ton, waning by -3.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, paper label export price increased by +72.7% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 44% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $10,086 per ton in 2021, and then shrank slightly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($13,124 per ton), while the average price for exports to Myanmar ($6,271 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Bangladesh (+49.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Paper Label Imports in Malaysia
In 2022, purchases abroad of labels of paper or paperboard decreased by -44.7% to 4.1K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports saw a perceptible descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 49%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 7.5K tons, and then fell sharply in the following year.
In value terms, paper label imports shrank markedly to $57M in 2022. In general, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +22.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 44%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $67M, and then fell significantly in the following year.

Paper Label Exports in Malaysia
Paper label exports from Malaysia declined to 3.6K tons in 2022, flattening at the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports showed a noticeable curtailment.
In value terms, paper label exports shrank slightly to $35M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 6.8% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $36M, and then shrank slightly in the following year.
