Papaya Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023

In September 2023, the average papaya import price amounted to $576 per ton, dropping by -5.4% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 12% month-to-month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $676 per ton. From March 2023 to September 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($703 per ton), while the price for Mexico stood at $556 per ton.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guatemala (+0.1%).

Papaya Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023

In September 2023, the average papaya export price amounted to $1,558 per ton, growing by 13% against the previous month. Over the period from September 2022 to September 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when the average export price increased by 14% m-o-m. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1,802 per ton. From March 2023 to September 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($4,639 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($1,067 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Papaya Imports in the United States

Papaya imports into the United States stood at 213K tons in 2022, surging by 6.6% compared with 2021. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, papaya imports amounted to $135M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 7.6%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
