U.S. Papaya Import Price per Ton May 2022
In May 2022, the papaya price per ton amounted to $678 (CIF, US), which is down by -3.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2022 an increase of 13% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $700 per ton, and then shrank modestly in the following month.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2022, the country with the highest price was Guatemala ($737 per ton), while the price for Mexico amounted to $659 per ton.
From January 2022 to May 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Guatemala (+1.3%).
U.S. Papaya Imports
Papaya imports into the United States totaled 20K tons in May 2022, growing by 11% compared with April 2022. The total import volume increased at an average monthly rate of +7.4% from January 2022 to May 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when imports increased by 15% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in May 2022.
In value terms, papaya imports expanded significantly to $14M (IndexBox estimates) in May 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +7.8% over the period from January 2022 to May 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 when imports increased by 11% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in May 2022.
U.S. Papaya Imports by Country
In May 2022, Mexico (17K tons) constituted the largest papaya supplier to the United States, with a 82% share of total imports. Moreover, papaya imports from Mexico exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Guatemala (3.4K tons), fivefold.
From January 2022 to May 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Mexico amounted to +7.4%.
In value terms, Mexico ($11M) constituted the largest supplier of papaya to the United States, comprising 80% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Guatemala ($2.5M), with an 18% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to May 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Mexico totaled +7.5%.
