Palm Oil Price in Brazil (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average palm oil import price amounted to $1,021 per ton, waning by -2.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 an increase of 3.8% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,420 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Malaysia ($1,335 per ton), while the price for Colombia ($966 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (-2.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Palm Oil Price in Brazil (FOB) - 2023
In September 2023, the average palm oil export price amounted to $1,512 per ton, almost unchanged from the previous month. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a mild reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 61% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $1,954 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to September 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major foreign markets. In September 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Bolivia ($1,688 per ton) and the United States ($1,582 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($1,427 per ton) and Uruguay ($1,455 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Uruguay (-1.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Palm Oil Imports in Brazil
In 2022, supplies from abroad of palm oil decreased by -23.9% to 278K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 70% against the previous year.
In value terms, palm oil imports rose rapidly to $417M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 118% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.
