Paddy Rice Price in Bangladesh (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average paddy rice import price amounted to $2,315 per ton, leveling off at the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 33% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $2,612 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was China ($5,299 per ton), while the price for India ($1,782 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+6.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Paddy Rice Price in Bangladesh (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average paddy rice export price amounted to $1,744 per ton, jumping by 21% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, paddy rice export price decreased by -3.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the average export price increased by 71%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $1,859 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Pakistan ($1,941 per ton), while the average price for exports to Ireland ($772 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+24.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Paddy Rice Imports in Bangladesh

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in supplies from abroad of paddy rice, when their volume decreased by -0.4% to 5.6K tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 9.9%.

In value terms, paddy rice imports reduced to $13M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 3.4% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $13M, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

Paddy Rice Exports in Bangladesh

In 2022, overseas shipments of paddy rice decreased by -4.2% to 226 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, total exports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +17.1% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -9.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 76% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 249 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, paddy rice exports soared to $394K in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 202%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $448K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
