Packaging Materials Price in Poland (CIF) - 2022
The average packaging materials import price stood at $971 per ton in 2022, jumping by 19% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were the Czech Republic ($1,173 per ton) and Italy ($1,159 per ton), while the price for Hungary ($807 per ton) and Austria ($837 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Czech Republic (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average packaging materials export price amounted to $1,093 per ton, rising by 17% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($1,364 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($814 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+5.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Packaging Materials Imports in Poland
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in purchases abroad of packaging materials, when their volume decreased by -5.3% to 3.6M tons. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 15%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 3.8M tons, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, packaging materials imports expanded markedly to $3.5B in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a prominent increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +16.5% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +58.0% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.
