Organo-Sulphur Compounds; Methionine Price in Turkey (CIF) - 2022
The average organo-sulphur compounds; methionine import price stood at $4,096 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average import price increased by 77%. The import price peaked at $5,043 per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($5,078 per ton), while the price for Japan ($2,456 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

The average organo-sulphur compounds; methionine export price stood at $2,462 per ton in July 2023, picking up by 6.1% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 when the average export price increased by 26% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $4,103 per ton. From September 2022 to July 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major export markets. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Nigeria ($2,753 per ton) and Azerbaijan ($2,481 per ton), while the average price for exports to Syrian Arab Republic ($2,210 per ton) and Iraq ($2,427 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Libya (0.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Organo-Sulphur Compounds; Methionine Imports in Turkey
In 2022, approx. 7K tons of organo-sulphur compounds; methionines were imported into Turkey; waning by -41% compared with the year before. In general, imports saw a deep contraction.
