Organo-Sulphur Compounds; Methionine Price in Egypt (CIF) - 2022
The average organo-sulphur compounds; methionine import price stood at $2,796 per ton in 2022, surging by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average import price increased by 37%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $5,250 per ton. From 2016 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the highest price was recorded for prices from Belgium ($2,901 per ton) and Spain ($2,895 per ton), while the price for the United States ($2,119 per ton) and Malaysia ($2,504 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (-3.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of organo-sulphur compounds; methionines, when their volume increased by 20% to 19K tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a slight reduction.
In value terms, organo-sulphur compounds; methionine imports soared to $53M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
