In June 2023, the average optical fiber cables import price amounted to $29,702 per ton, rising by 263% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a perceptible expansion. The import price peaked at $30,571 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($169K per ton), while the price for China ($7,592 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Estonia (+10.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average optical fiber cables export price amounted to $27,129 per ton, which is down by -2.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, optical fiber cables export price increased by +1.2% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the average export price increased by 30% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $29,913 per ton. From 2019 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($51,797 per ton), while the average price for exports to Iceland ($9,339 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Estonia (+8.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, purchases abroad of optical fiber cables decreased by -44.2% to 1.1K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, imports showed a abrupt decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 2.5%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 2.2K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, optical fiber cables imports dropped rapidly to $24M in 2022. Overall, imports saw a precipitous descent. The smallest decline of -0.6% was in 2021.
