Olive Oil Price in Spain (FOB) - 2021
In November 2021, the average olive oil export price amounted to $4,040 per ton, reducing by -2.8% against the previous month. Over the period from November 2020 to November 2021, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2021 an increase of 7.3% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $4,156 per ton in October 2021, and then fell modestly in the following month.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In November 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices to Brazil ($4,951 per ton) and Japan ($4,714 per ton), while the average price for exports to Portugal ($3,543 per ton) and France ($3,632 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From November 2020 to November 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brazil (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Olive Oil Price in Spain (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average olive oil import price amounted to $2,510 per ton, declining by -14.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 35%. The import price peaked at $3,743 per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Argentina ($3,244 per ton), while the price for Morocco ($2,021 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Argentina (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Olive Oil Exports in Spain
Olive oil exports from Spain rose to 842K tons in 2022, increasing by 2.6% on the year before. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern.
In value terms, olive oil exports declined to $2.8B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 21%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $3.1B, and then fell in the following year.

Olive Oil Imports in Spain
In 2022, olive oil imports into Spain skyrocketed to 213K tons, jumping by 16% on the year before. Over the period under review, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -12.4% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 71% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 243K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, olive oil imports dropped modestly to $535M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +15.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +52.5% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 51% against the previous year.
