Odoriferous Substance Mixture Price in South Africa (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average odoriferous substance mixture import price amounted to $26,966 per ton, increasing by 23% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a noticeable reduction. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $34,258 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Swaziland ($63,578 per ton), while the price for the United States ($9,785 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Switzerland (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Odoriferous Substance Mixture Price in South Africa (FOB) - 2023

In September 2023, the average odoriferous substance mixture export price amounted to $5,833 per ton, with an increase of 9.3% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2023 an increase of 26% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $6,111 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to September 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Tanzania ($12,672 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($988 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Tanzania (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Odoriferous Substance Mixture Imports in South Africa

Odoriferous substance mixture imports into South Africa declined remarkably to 21K tons in 2022, dropping by -20.8% compared with the previous year's figure. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 44%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 26K tons, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, odoriferous substance mixture imports shrank modestly to $559M in 2022. In general, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 20%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $574M, and then shrank modestly in the following year.
