Nucleic Acid Price in South Africa (CIF) - 2022

The average nucleic acid import price stood at $33,950 per ton in 2022, which is down by -5% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $42,347 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($129,537 per ton), while the price for Spain ($6,350 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+17.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Nucleic Acid Price in South Africa (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average nucleic acid export price amounted to $22,216 per ton, shrinking by -33.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average export price increased by 86%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $33,885 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($61,101 per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($734 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+19.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Nucleic Acid Imports in South Africa

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of nucleic acids and their salts, when their volume decreased by -32% to 2.4K tons. Overall, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 3.6K tons, and then reduced notably in the following year.

In value terms, nucleic acid imports dropped remarkably to $83M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 36% against the previous year.

Nucleic Acid Exports in South Africa

In 2022, overseas shipments of nucleic acids and their salts decreased by -19.3% to 223 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, total exports indicated a slight expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -36.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 63%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 350 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, nucleic acid exports reduced markedly to $5M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 204% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $12M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
