Newsprint Price in South Korea (FOB) - 2022
The average newsprint export price stood at $716 per ton in December 2022, standing approximately at the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when the average export price increased by 8.5% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $747 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to December 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In December 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Australia ($828 per ton) and Thailand ($808 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($612 per ton) and Bangladesh ($655 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Newsprint Price in South Korea (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average newsprint import price amounted to $1,329 per ton, with a decrease of -43.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 287%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2,611 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($19,875 per ton), while the price for China ($1,154 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+56.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Newsprint Exports in South Korea
In 2022, shipments abroad of newsprint was finally on the rise to reach 133K tons after two years of decline. Overall, exports, however, showed a abrupt decrease.
In value terms, newsprint exports surged to $93M in 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a deep downturn.

In 2022, purchases abroad of newsprint decreased by -65.1% to 986 kg, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports recorded a dramatic decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 141% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of 10 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, newsprint imports fell dramatically to $1.3K in 2022. In general, imports showed a sharp slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 197%.
