Nail and Bolt Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023

In August 2023, the average nail and bolt import price amounted to $3,228 per ton, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2022 an increase of 4.8% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $3,768 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Germany ($9,106 per ton), while the price for Sri Lanka ($1,293 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Nail and Bolt Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023

In August 2023, the average nail and bolt export price amounted to $8,131 per ton, dropping by -3.9% against the previous month. In general, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 an increase of 10% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $8,958 per ton in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was China ($23,374 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($4,174 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+2.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Nail and Bolt Imports in the United States

In 2022, approx. 2.9M tons of nails, tacks, staples, screws and bolts were imported into the United States; with an increase of 15% on 2021 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, nail and bolt imports skyrocketed to $9.6B in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.2% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +67.0% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

For the third year in a row, the United States recorded decline in overseas shipments of nails, tacks, staples, screws and bolts, which decreased by -18.2% to 615K tons in 2022. Overall, exports showed a abrupt shrinkage. The smallest decline of -0.9% was in 2021.

In value terms, nail and bolt exports skyrocketed to $5.2B in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
