Mullite Price in Germany (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average mullite import price amounted to $605 per ton, shrinking by -13% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, posted a modest increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 136% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,178 per ton in June 2023; however, from July 2023 to August 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($1,452 per ton), while the price for Belgium ($225 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Luxembourg (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Mullite Price in Germany (FOB) - 2023
The average mullite export price stood at $761 per ton in August 2023, reducing by -50.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 92% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $1,547 per ton in July 2023, and then contracted dramatically in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Slovenia ($2,298 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($413 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Slovenia (+13.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Mullite Imports in Germany
In 2022, the amount of mullites imported into Germany fell remarkably to 36K tons, with a decrease of -36.6% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, imports, however, posted perceptible growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 75%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 57K tons, and then declined remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, mullite imports shrank to $22M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a strong increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.3% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +33.7% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 55% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $26M, and then shrank in the following year.

Mullite Exports in Germany
After three years of growth, shipments abroad of mullites decreased by -3.5% to 24K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 19% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 25K tons, and then dropped slightly in the following year.
In value terms, mullite exports surged to $17M in 2022. In general, exports recorded a mild reduction.
