Molasse Price in Australia (FOB) - 2022
The average molasse export price stood at $167 per ton in 2022, increasing by 2.7% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, molasse export price increased by +74.7% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 an increase of 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the countries with the highest prices were South Korea ($197 per ton) and Thailand ($177 per ton), while the average price for exports to New Zealand ($148 per ton) and the United States ($168 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+10.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Molasse Price in Australia (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average molasse import price amounted to $490 per ton, falling by -76.9% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 an increase of 346% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $2,425 per ton. From January 2023 to September 2023, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was India ($416 per ton), while the price for Vietnam stood at $280 per ton.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mozambique (+9.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Molasse Exports in Australia
For the fourth consecutive year, Australia recorded growth in shipments abroad of molasses, which increased by 15% to 403K tons in 2022. In general, exports recorded significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 72%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
In value terms, molasse exports skyrocketed to $68M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 111%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

For the third consecutive year, Australia recorded decline in supplies from abroad of molasses, which decreased by -14.5% to 2.1K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded a dramatic decline. The smallest decline of -9.8% was in 2020.
In value terms, molasse imports shrank to $1.6M in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a significant decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 14%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $13M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
