View PricingMixing Vegetable Oil and Diesel
Mixing vegetable oil and diesel is a common practice among some individuals who want to reduce their fuel costs or who want to use a more environmentally-friendly fuel. This process is also known as vegetable oil conversion or VO conversion. In this process, vegetable oil is blended with diesel fuel to form a mixture that can be used as fuel in diesel engines.
The mixture is usually made up of around 80 percent diesel fuel and 20 percent vegetable oil. The vegetable oil used in this process can be any type of oil such as canola, sunflower, soybean or corn oil. However, the most popular oil used in this process is waste vegetable oil or WVO. This is the oil that has been used to fry food and is no longer suitable for use in cooking.
When vegetable oil is mixed with diesel fuel, it creates a fuel that is more viscous than regular diesel fuel. To use this fuel in a diesel engine, modifications to the engine must be made. The most common modification is the installation of a second fuel tank and fuel lines. The second tank is used to store the vegetable oil mixture, while the original tank is kept for diesel fuel only. The vehicle is then started on diesel fuel and once the engine reaches operating temperature, the driver can switch to the vegetable oil mixture.
One of the main benefits of using a vegetable oil and diesel mixture is a reduction in emissions. The vegetable oil mixture produces less carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases than regular diesel fuel. This means that using this fuel can help to reduce the carbon footprint of diesel engines.
Another benefit of using a vegetable oil and diesel mixture is cost savings. Vegetable oil is usually much cheaper than diesel fuel. This means that individuals who use this fuel can save a significant amount of money on fuel costs.
However, there are some downsides to using a vegetable oil and diesel mixture. The first downside is that modifications to the diesel engine must be made in order to use the mixture. This can be both expensive and time-consuming. The second downside is that vegetable oil can cause deposits to form in the engine. These deposits can lead to engine damage over time.
Overall, mixing vegetable oil and diesel can be a good way to reduce fuel costs and decrease the carbon footprint of diesel engines. However, it is important to keep in mind the possible downsides and to consult with a professional before making any modifications to a diesel engine.
