Meat and Poultry Price in China (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average meat and poultry import price amounted to $4,558 per ton, picking up by 26% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, meat and poultry import price increased by +75.4% against 2016 indices. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Australia ($7,175 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($2,163 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+24.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Meat and Poultry Price in China (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average meat and poultry export price amounted to $3,129 per ton, falling by -5.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $3,403 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hong Kong SAR ($3,656 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cambodia ($1,501 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+1.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Meat and Poultry Imports in China
In 2022, purchases abroad of meat and poultry decreased by -21.7% to 6.1M tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -26.8% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 71%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 8.4M tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, meat and poultry imports dropped modestly to $27.9B in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +67.2% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 64% against the previous year.
