Meat and Poultry Price in Australia (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average meat and poultry export price amounted to $7,163 per ton, picking up by 5.9% against the previous year. Over the last decade, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 17%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($9,997 per ton), while the average price for exports to Papua New Guinea ($2,417 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Meat and Poultry Price in Australia (CIF) - 2022

The average meat and poultry import price stood at $3,262 per ton in 2022, dropping by -12.1% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 19%. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $3,710 per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($5,779 per ton), while the price for Canada ($2,768 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (+10.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Meat and Poultry Exports in Australia

Meat and poultry exports from Australia declined slightly to 1.5M tons in 2022, approximately reflecting 2021 figures. In general, exports showed a deep reduction.

In value terms, meat and poultry exports expanded modestly to $10.7B in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when exports increased by 8.9%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
