Measuring Instrument Price in Japan (FOB) - 2023
The average measuring instrument export price stood at $70.1 per unit in July 2023, rising by 16% against the previous month. In general, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 22% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $82.8 per unit. From April 2023 to July 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($165 per unit), while the average price for exports to South Africa ($14.1 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+2.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Measuring Instrument Price in Japan (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average measuring instrument import price amounted to $45.7 per unit, picking up by 15% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $48.7 per unit in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($121 per unit), while the price for South Korea ($10.8 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Measuring Instrument Exports in Japan
For the third consecutive year, Japan recorded decline in shipments abroad of instruments and apparatus for measuring or checking the flow or level of liquids, which decreased by -19.4% to 947K units in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a deep slump. The smallest decline of -12% was in 2021. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at 1.6M units in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, measuring instrument exports reduced to $232M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +10.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $234M, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

Measuring Instrument Imports in Japan
In 2022, the amount of instruments and apparatus for measuring or checking the flow or level of liquids imported into Japan dropped to 1.8M units, declining by -13.2% on 2021. In general, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last three years.
