Global test and measurement exports stood at 211K tonnes in 2016, surging by 9% against the previous year figure. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% from 2007 to 2016; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2011, when export increased by 13% against the previous year level. Over the period under review, global test and measurement exports attained its maximum volume in 2016, and are expected to retain its growth in the near future.

In value terms, test and measurement exports stood at $20B in 2016. Overall, it indicated a strong expansion from 2007 to 2016: the total exports value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on the result of 2016, test and measurement exports decreased by -7.5% against its level of 2014. Over the period under review, global test and measurement exports reached its maximum level of $21B in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Test And Measurement Exports By Country

The countries with the highest levels of test and measurement exports in 2016 were the UK (29K tonnes), Germany (28K tonnes), China (22K tonnes), the U.S. (20K tonnes), and the Netherlands (17K tonnes), together accounting for 55% of total export. France (11K tonnes) occupied the second position in the ranking, followed by Mexico (10K tonnes). All these countries together took near 10% share of total exports. Italy (9.5K tonnes), Malaysia (7.2K tonnes), Japan (5.7K tonnes), Hungary (4.8K tonnes), and Poland (4.4K tonnes) followed a long way behind this figure.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of test and measurement exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by Malaysia (+20.2% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($4B), the U.S. ($3.3B) and China ($1.5B) appeared as the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2016, together comprising 45% of global exports.

China (+12.3% per year) recorded the highest growth rate of test and measurement exports, among the main exporting countries, over the last 9 years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Test And Measurement Export Prices By Country

In 2016, the average export price for test and measurement amounted to $94 per kg, shrinking by -9.1% against the previous year. In general, test and measurement export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010, when export price increased by 12% from the previous year level. Global test and measurement export peaked of $115 per kg in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2016, it failed to regain its strength.

There were significant differences in the average export prices amongst major exporting countries. In 2016, the country with the highest export prices was the U.S. ($166 per kg), while Hungary ($17 per kg) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of test and measurement export prices was attained by Japan (+4.6% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
