The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2011, when import increased by 8% y-o-y. Over the period under review, global test and measurement imports attained its maximum volume in 2016, and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, test and measurement imports totaled $20B in 2016. Overall, it indicated a prominent expansion from 2007 to 2016: the total imports value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. Based on the result of 2016, test and measurement imports decreased by -6.2% against its level of 2014. Over the period under review, global test and measurement imports reached its maximum level of $22B in 2014- however, from 2015 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

Test And Measurement Imports By Country

The countries with the highest levels of test and measurement imports in 2016 were the UK (31K tonnes), Germany (28K tonnes), China (22K tonnes), the U.S. (22K tonnes), and the Netherlands (21K tonnes), together amounting to 40% of total import. The following importers - Italy (13K tonnes), France (11K tonnes), Mexico (10K tonnes), Malaysia (10K tonnes), Spain (8.2K tonnes), Japan (7.9K tonnes), and South Korea (5.7K tonnes) together made up 22% of total imports.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of test and measurement imports, among the main importing countries, was attained by Malaysia (+21.5% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the U.S. ($3B), China ($2.3B) and Germany ($2B) appeared as the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2016, together comprising 36% of global imports.

China (+10.4% per year) recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the test and measurement imports, in terms of the main importing countries, over the last 9 years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Test And Measurement Import Prices By Country

In 2016, the average import price for test and measurement amounted to $66 per kg, falling by -5.9% against the previous year. Over the period from 2007 to 2016 it increased at an average annual rate of +2.6%.The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2010, when import increased by 14% year-to-year. Global test and measurement import peaked of $76 per kg in 2014- however, from 2015 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.

There were significant differences in the average import prices amongst major importing countries. In 2016, the country with the highest import prices was the U.S. ($136 per kg), while Malaysia ($18 per kg) was among the lowest.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of test and measurement import prices was attained by the Netherlands (+11.8% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
