Margarine and Shortening Price in Saudi Arabia (CIF) - 2022

The average margarine and shortening import price stood at $1,774 per ton in 2021, rising by 32% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($2,352 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($1,234 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price peaked at $3,185 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kuwait (-0.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Margarine and Shortening Imports in Saudi Arabia

Margarine and shortening imports into Saudi Arabia rose markedly to 24K tons in 2021, picking up by 12% on the year before. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced curtailment.

In value terms, margarine and shortening imports soared to $43M in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +18.3% over the last two-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
