Marble and Travertine Price in Sri Lanka (CIF) - 2022

The average marble and travertine import price stood at $416 per ton in 2021, picking up by 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a resilient increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, marble and travertine import price increased by +60.7% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($427 per ton), while the price for Oman ($148 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+4.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Marble and Travertine Price in Sri Lanka (FOB) - 2022

In 2021, the average marble and travertine export price amounted to $344 per ton, which is down by -4.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 64% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1,396 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was India ($1,606 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($366 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+11.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Marble and Travertine Imports in Sri Lanka

In 2022, overseas purchases of marble and travertine decreased by -38.4% to 591 tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports recorded a sharp reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 22%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 9.7K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, marble and travertine imports reduced remarkably to $234K in 2022. In general, imports showed a sharp descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 41%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $3.6M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
