Malt Price in Sri Lanka (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average malt import price amounted to $635 per ton, increasing by 46% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $641 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($1,391 per ton), while the price for China ($392 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+7.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Malt Price in Sri Lanka (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average malt export price amounted to $5,168 per ton, jumping by 185% against the previous year. In general, the export price continues to indicate a significant increase. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Germany.

From 2012 to 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Italy amounted to +19.5% per year.

Malt Imports in Sri Lanka

In 2022, approx. 26K tons of malt (not roasted) were imported into Sri Lanka; picking up by 29% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +12.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +51.9% against 2020 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, malt imports surged to $17M in 2022. Overall, imports posted a significant increase. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Malt Exports in Sri Lanka

In 2022, shipments abroad of malt (not roasted) decreased by -94.8% to 200 kg, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, exports faced a precipitous decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 11 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, malt exports dropped rapidly to $1K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports faced a dramatic decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 141%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $13K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
