Maize Oil Price in Australia (CIF) - 2023

In July 2023, the average maize oil import price amounted to $1,804 per ton, dropping by -20.9% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 an increase of 153% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $5,682 per ton. From March 2023 to July 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($3,338 per ton), while the price for China ($1,119 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Maize Oil Price in Australia (FOB) - 2022

The average maize oil export price stood at $3,050 per ton in 2022, growing by 42% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, showed a mild slump. The export price peaked at $3,450 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($16,000 per ton), while the average price for exports to New Zealand ($1,896 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+27.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Maize Oil Imports in Australia

In 2022, overseas purchases of maize oil decreased by -20.3% to 884 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports showed a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 38% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 1.6K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, maize oil imports expanded markedly to $1.8M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 46%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $2.2M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Maize Oil Exports in Australia

For the third consecutive year, Australia recorded decline in shipments abroad of maize oil, which decreased by -84.8% to 2.3 tons in 2022. In general, exports continue to indicate a sharp downturn. The smallest decline of -41.7% was in 2020.

In value terms, maize oil exports reduced markedly to $7.1K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a precipitous decline. The smallest decline of -32.4% was in 2020.
