Lentil Price in Chile (CIF) - 2023

The average lentil import price stood at $1,183 per ton in July 2023, rising by 2.5% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2023 an increase of 3.2% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $1,207 per ton in July 2022; afterwards, it flattened through to July 2023.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Canada.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Argentina amounted to +1.8% per month.

Lentil Price in Chile (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average lentil export price amounted to $2,370 per ton, reducing by -22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average export price increased by 87% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $3,038 per ton, and then fell remarkably in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Venezuela ($3,645 per ton), while the average price for exports to Cuba stood at $1,554 per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Venezuela (+12.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Lentil Imports in Chile

In 2022, supplies from abroad of lentils decreased by -31.9% to 10K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports showed a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 209% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 47K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, lentil imports fell to $12M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 264% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $32M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Lentil Exports in Chile

After two years of decline, shipments abroad of lentils increased by 8.2% to 28 tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, faced a sharp slump.

In value terms, lentil exports contracted significantly to $66K in 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a precipitous setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 20% against the previous year.
