Leather Footwear Price in Japan (CIF) - 2023

The average leather footwear import price stood at $35.3 per pair in September 2023, flattening at the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2023 when the average import price increased by 9.1% against the previous month. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $35.8 per pair, and then reduced in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Italy ($47.5 per pair), while the price for Myanmar ($30.9 per pair) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Leather Footwear Price in Japan (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average leather footwear export price amounted to $80 per pair, declining by -1.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $81 per pair in 2021, and then reduced in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($119 per pair), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($52 per pair) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mongolia (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Leather Footwear Imports in Japan

After two years of decline, purchases abroad of leather footwear increased by 32% to 39M pairs in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports peaked at 40M pairs in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, leather footwear imports skyrocketed to $1.3B in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
