Biodiesel is a renewable energy source made from vegetable oils, animal fats, and other natural sources that can be used as an alternative to traditional petroleum-based diesel. With increasing concerns about climate change and the rising costs of fossil fuels, biodiesel production has become more prevalent in recent years. Here are the five largest biodiesel producers in the world.
1. Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM)
ADM is headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, and is one of the largest agricultural processors and food ingredient providers in the world. ADM has been producing biodiesel for more than two decades and has a total annual production capacity of 1.7 billion gallons. ADM's biodiesel facilities are located in the United States, Germany, Brazil, and Canada.
2. Neste
Neste is headquartered in Espoo, Finland, and is the world's largest producer of renewable diesel and the second-largest producer of biodiesel. Neste's annual production capacity is around 1.5 billion gallons. The company has production facilities in Finland, the Netherlands, and Singapore.
3. Renewable Energy Group (REG)
REG is headquartered in Ames, Iowa, and is a leading North American producer of biodiesel. The company has a total annual production capacity of 575 million gallons. REG has 13 biorefineries located in the United States and Europe.
4. Wilmar International
Wilmar International is headquartered in Singapore and is one of the largest agribusiness companies in Asia. The company produces biodiesel from palm oil and has an annual production capacity of 450 million gallons. Wilmar's biodiesel facilities are located in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Europe.
5. Cargill
Cargill is headquartered in Wayzata, Minnesota, and is one of the largest privately held corporations in the United States. Cargill has a total annual production capacity of 425 million gallons of biodiesel. The company's biodiesel facilities are located in the United States, Europe, and South America.
In conclusion, these five companies are the largest biodiesel producers in the world, with a combined annual production capacity of over 4.5 billion gallons. As the demand for renewable energy continues to grow, these companies are well-positioned to meet that demand and help reduce our dependence on fossil fuels.
