Iron Angle Price in Switzerland (CIF) - 2023
The average iron angle import price stood at $1,002 per ton in August 2023, declining by -2.3% against the previous month. Overall, the import price showed a pronounced slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in April 2023 an increase of 1.9% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $1,373 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Austria ($1,344 per ton), while the price for France ($883 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (-1.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Iron Angle Price in Switzerland (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average iron angle export price amounted to $1,316 per ton, growing by 21% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, iron angle export price increased by +68.1% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the average export price increased by 39% against the previous year. The export price peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the highest price was recorded for prices to France ($1,592 per ton) and Germany ($1,316 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($1,123 per ton) and Belgium ($1,207 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+7.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Iron Angle Imports in Switzerland
In 2022, purchases abroad of angles, shapes and sections (of iron or non-alloy steel) decreased by -5.3% to 134K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, imports continue to indicate a mild descent. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 3% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 144K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, iron angle imports skyrocketed to $181M in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 54%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
