China Iron and Steel Railway Construction Materials Export Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the iron and steel railway construction materials price amounted to $1,425 per ton (FOB, China), rising by 17% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 an increase of 35% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $1,471 per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($3,180 per ton), while the average price for exports to Peru ($735 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Iron and Steel Railway Construction Materials Exports

Exports of railway or tramway track construction material of iron or steel from China fell remarkably to 20K tons in September 2022, shrinking by -55.9% compared with the month before. In general, exports, however, recorded a measured increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 308% m-o-m. The exports peaked at 57K tons in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to September 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, exports of railway or tramway track construction material of iron or steel reduced rapidly to $29M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, exports, however, saw a moderate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when exports increased by 199% m-o-m. The exports peaked at 62K tons in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to September 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

China Iron and Steel Railway Construction Materials Exports by Country

Vietnam (4.6K tons), Mongolia (3.7K tons) and Indonesia (1.8K tons) were the main destinations of exports of railway or tramway track construction material of iron or steel from China, together accounting for 49% of total exports. South Korea, Chile, the United States, Taiwan (Chinese), India, Peru, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh and New Zealand lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Chile (with a CAGR of +110.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for iron and steel railway construction materials exported from China were Vietnam ($3.9M), Indonesia ($3.9M) and Mongolia ($3.9M), together comprising 40% of total exports.

Mongolia, with a CAGR of +103.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
