Iodine Price in Australia (CIF) - 2022

The average iodine import price stood at $47,157 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 36% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the average import price increased by 46% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $49,552 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was India ($79,972 per ton), while the price for the United States ($37,780 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by India (+11.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Iodine Price in Australia (FOB) - 2022

The average iodine export price stood at $40,860 per ton in 2022, increasing by 37% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 189% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $57,905 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Papua New Guinea ($58,091 per ton), while the average price for exports to New Zealand ($42,317 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+28.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Iodine Imports in Australia

In 2022, approx. 130 tons of iodine were imported into Australia; picking up by 38% on 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +17.7% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +63.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 51%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, iodine imports soared to $6.1M in 2022. Overall, imports showed significant growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
