Insects; Live, Bees Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2023

In May 2023, the average insects; live, bees import price amounted to $168 per thousand units, waning by -5.8% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a modest expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 when the average import price increased by 14% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $0.2 per unit, and then dropped in the following month.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In May 2023, the country with the highest price was Slovakia ($203 per thousand units), while the price for Spain ($111 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.

From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovakia (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In June 2023, the average insects; live, bees export price amounted to $285 per thousand units, with an increase of 23% against the previous month. Over the period from June 2022 to June 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +4.8%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Japan ($510 per thousand units), while the average price for exports to Poland ($114 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+9.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas purchases of insects; live, beeses, when their volume decreased by -74.2% to 36M units. In general, imports, however, saw a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 145%. Imports peaked at 140M units in 2021, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.
