Inactive Yeast Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
The average inactive yeast import price stood at $3,470 per ton in August 2023, with an increase of 2.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a modest expansion from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, inactive yeast import price decreased by -19.9% against June 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 when the average import price increased by 32% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $4,856 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to August 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Canada ($8,012 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($1,372 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Canada (+4.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Inactive Yeast Price in the United States (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average inactive yeast export price amounted to $4,526 per ton, rising by 7.4% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.1%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($11,117 per ton), while the average price for exports to Chile ($1,477 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Guatemala (+4.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Inactive Yeast Imports in the United States
For the fourth year in a row, the United States recorded growth in supplies from abroad of inactive yeasts and other dead single-cell micro-organisms, which increased by 4% to 51K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 19%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, inactive yeast imports expanded markedly to $170M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
