Ice Cream Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023

The average ice cream export price stood at $3,836 per ton in October 2023, picking up by 4.2% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average export price increased by 7.3% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $3,966 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to October 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was China ($4,824 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($3,073 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Jamaica (+3.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Ice Cream Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023

In October 2023, the average ice cream import price amounted to $4,238 per ton, surging by 5.6% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2023 an increase of 11% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $4,464 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to October 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($6,693 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($2,843 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mexico (+4.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Ice Cream Exports in the United States

Ice cream exports from the United States reduced slightly to 73K tons in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against 2021 figures. Overall, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 2.2%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 74K tons, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, ice cream exports amounted to $267M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Ice Cream Imports in the United States

For the fourth year in a row, the United States recorded growth in supplies from abroad of ice cream, which increased by 33% to 90K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, imports recorded significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 65%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, ice cream imports skyrocketed to $328M in 2022. In general, imports showed a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 79%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
