Ice Cream Price in the UK (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average ice cream import price amounted to $4,404 per ton, shrinking by -3.8% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 10% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $4,576 per ton in July 2023, and then contracted in the following month.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Spain ($6,506 per ton), while the price for Ireland ($2,756 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Slovenia (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ice Cream Price in the UK (FOB) - 2023
The average ice cream export price stood at $4,367 per ton in August 2023, reducing by -7.4% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 35% month-to-month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $5,323 per ton. From February 2023 to August 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In August 2023, the country with the highest price was Australia ($11,789 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($2,789 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ice Cream Imports in the UK
In 2022, approx. 130K tons of ice cream were imported into the UK; waning by -5.8% on 2021 figures. In general, imports showed a noticeable setback. The smallest decline of -1.5% was in 2021.
In value terms, ice cream imports fell to $461M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain years. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $472M, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

In 2022, overseas shipments of ice cream decreased by -14.2% to 43K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. In general, exports recorded a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 7%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 57K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, ice cream exports shrank modestly to $162M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 8.7% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $168M.
