Growing silicon wafers is an intricate process that requires careful planning and execution. These wafers are used in the semiconductor industry to manufacture microchips and other electronic devices. The process involves several steps that are repeated consistently to ensure quality and reliability.
The first step in growing silicon wafers is to obtain raw silicon. This is done by using a chemical process to extract silicon from sand or quartz. The silicon is then purified and melted into a single crystal using a process called Czochralski crystal growth or Float-zone crystal growth. Once the crystal has reached the desired size and properties, it is sliced into thin wafers using a diamond saw.
The next step involves cleaning the wafers using a combination of chemicals and ultraviolet light. This removes any impurities that may have been introduced during the slicing process. After cleaning, a layer of silicon dioxide is deposited on the wafer using a process called thermal oxidation. This layer serves as a protective barrier for the underlying silicon and allows for the formation of electrical components on the surface.
Once the oxide layer has been deposited, the wafers are ready for various processing steps, including photolithography, etching, and doping. These steps involve creating patterns on the surface of the wafer and then adding impurities to specific regions. The impurities alter the electrical properties of the silicon, allowing for the creation of different types of electronic components such as transistors and diodes.
After the electronic components have been formed, the wafers undergo additional processing steps, including cleaning and testing. This ensures that the wafers meet the specified requirements for electrical performance and reliability. Once the wafers have passed all necessary tests, they are packaged and shipped to semiconductor manufacturers who use them to fabricate microchips and other electronic devices.
The entire process of growing silicon wafers is highly controlled, with each step relying on the previous one to ensure quality and consistency. This attention to detail is critical, given the importance of silicon wafers in modern electronic devices. Without these wafers, it would be difficult if not impossible to manufacture the microchips and other electronic components that are essential to our daily lives.

New waves of the epidemic and the overwhelming demand for oxygen in the healthcare sector have led to a scarcity of the product worldwide. Countries with severe shortages are diverting oxygen from the sectors of metallurgy and chemistry to healthcare, which reduces the productivity of the manufacturing industries. As the pandemic slows, the demand for medical oxygen will return to pre-crisis levels. In the post-pandemic period, the growing demand from the metallurgical and chemical industries will continue to shape market expansion. Decarbonization may emerge as a new market driver, with oxygen being used to produce synthesis gas from carbon dioxide.
