Graphite Price in the UK (CIF) - 2022

In 2022, the average graphite import price amounted to $1,589 per ton, rising by 21% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 27% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $1,769 per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($2,759 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($716 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Norway (+38.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Graphite Price in the UK (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average graphite export price amounted to $2,325 per ton, jumping by 58% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $2,741 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($5,184 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($777 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Graphite Imports in the UK

In 2022, overseas purchases of graphite (natural) decreased by -28% to 4.8K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 55%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 9.2K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, graphite imports reduced to $7.6M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 36%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $9.5M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Graphite Exports in the UK

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of graphite (natural), when their volume decreased by -42.9% to 1.6K tons. Over the period under review, exports showed a pronounced decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 33%.

In value terms, graphite exports shrank to $3.6M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 17% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $4.1M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
