Ginger Price in Turkey (CIF) - 2022
The average ginger import price stood at $1,236 per ton in 2022, dropping by -7.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 24%. The import price peaked at $1,336 per ton in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Nigeria ($1,759 per ton), while the price for Iran ($241 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iran (+9.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ginger Price in Turkey (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average ginger export price amounted to $3,067 per ton, picking up by 27% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the average export price increased by 66% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $6,664 per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was France ($6,122 per ton), while the average price for exports to Iran ($1,510 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lebanon (+12.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Ginger Imports in Turkey
In 2022, supplies from abroad of ginger decreased by -7.1% to 3.8K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -25.5% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 65%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 5.1K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, ginger imports dropped to $4.7M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -30.0% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 101% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $6.7M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Ginger Exports in Turkey
After three years of growth, overseas shipments of ginger decreased by -44.9% to 262 tons in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 78% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 476 tons, and then contracted rapidly in the following year.
In value terms, ginger exports shrank remarkably to $804K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 183%.
