Frozen Catfish Price in China (CIF) - 2023
In September 2023, the average frozen catfish import price amounted to $1,715 per ton, approximately equating the previous month. In general, the import price showed a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 an increase of 4.6% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $2,258 per ton in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to September 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Vietnam.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Vietnam amounted to -2.3% per month.
Frozen Catfish Price in China (FOB) - 2022
The average frozen catfish export price stood at $2,438 per ton in 2022, which is down by -25.1% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, frozen catfish export price decreased by -30.6% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 55% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $3,511 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($5,372 per ton), while the average price for exports to Thailand ($1,396 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (+13.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Frozen Catfish Imports in China
In 2022, the amount of frozen catfish imported into China surged to 51K tons, picking up by 28% compared with the year before. In general, total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +16.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +69.7% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 33%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, frozen catfish imports soared to $118M in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed significant growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
