Frozen Atlantic Halibut Price in Japan (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average frozen atlantic halibut import price amounted to $6,242 per ton, dropping by -4.1% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 7.1% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $6,801 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to July 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from Greenland ($7,128 per ton) and Canada ($6,540 per ton), while the price for Denmark ($5,385 per ton) and Spain ($5,824 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Frozen Atlantic Halibut Price in Japan (FOB) - 2022
In 2022, the average frozen atlantic halibut export price amounted to $4,782 per ton, shrinking by -6.5% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a pronounced expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, frozen atlantic halibut export price increased by +2.1% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 60% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $7,501 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($5,999 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada amounted to $4,344 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+7.0%).
Frozen Atlantic Halibut Imports in Japan
In 2022, overseas purchases of frozen atlantic halibut decreased by -4.9% to 15K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 17%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 18K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, frozen atlantic halibut imports reached $96M in 2022. In general, imports saw a perceptible setback.
