Folding Boxboard Price in Brazil (CIF) - 2023
In July 2023, the average folding boxboard import price amounted to $1,530 per ton, declining by -2% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 an increase of 12% month-to-month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $1,690 per ton. From September 2022 to July 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Austria ($11,208 per ton), while the price for Hong Kong SAR ($780 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Austria (+22.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Folding Boxboard Price in Brazil (FOB) - 2023
The average folding boxboard export price stood at $2,469 per ton in July 2023, reducing by -2.9% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.5%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2022 when the average export price increased by 13% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the peak figure at $2,758 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to the Dominican Republic ($2,989 per ton) and Mexico ($2,910 per ton), while the average price for exports to Venezuela ($2,314 per ton) and Peru ($2,321 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+8.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Folding Boxboard Imports in Brazil
For the fourth consecutive year, Brazil recorded growth in supplies from abroad of folding boxboard, which increased by 2% to 146K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 24% against the previous year. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, folding boxboard imports surged to $229M in 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a prominent expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.7% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +53.7% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 29%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In 2022, approx. 104K tons of folding boxboard were exported from Brazil; rising by 18% on 2021 figures. In general, exports, however, saw a deep slump.
In value terms, folding boxboard exports soared to $217M in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a perceptible reduction.
