Ferro-Alloys; Ferro-Nickel Price in China (CIF) - 2023

In June 2023, the average ferro-alloys; ferro-nickel import price amounted to $1,866 per ton, which is down by -5.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in October 2022 when the average import price increased by 8% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $3,119 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was New Caledonia ($4,620 per ton), while the price for Indonesia ($1,785 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Korea (-3.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

The average ferro-alloys; ferro-nickel export price stood at $3,736 per ton in 2022, leveling off at the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average export price increased by 285% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $14,340 per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($5,307 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($1,779 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (-1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

For the fourth year in a row, China recorded growth in purchases abroad of ferro-alloys; ferro-nickels, which increased by 71% to 1.5M tons in 2022. Overall, imports showed a significant expansion. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
