The Chinese ferro-manganese market rose significantly to $X in 2021, growing by 9.1% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, continues to indicate a noticeable descent. In 2021, overseas shipments of ferro-manganese increased by 5,337% to X tons, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, ferro-manganese exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), Indonesia (X tons) and Turkey (X tons) were the main destinations of ferro-manganese exports from China, with a combined 62% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Vietnam, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Netherlands, Myanmar, Japan and South Korea, which together accounted for a further 25%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Pakistan (with a CAGR of +36,685.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Indonesia ($X), Turkey ($X) and Taiwan (Chinese) ($X) constituted the largest markets for ferro-manganese exported from China worldwide, with a combined 67% share of total exports. Malaysia, Vietnam, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Myanmar, Japan and South Korea lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.
Pakistan, with a CAGR of +42,503.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average ferro-manganese export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 31% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Myanmar ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+17.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into China
Ferro-manganese imports into China fell dramatically to X tons in 2021, reducing by -88.1% against 2020 figures. Overall, imports continue to indicate a dramatic shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 179% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, ferro-manganese imports declined sharply to $X in 2021. In general, imports faced a sharp shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 234%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Japan (X tons), Vietnam (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main suppliers of ferro-manganese imports to China, together comprising 93% of total imports. Ukraine, South Korea and France lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 3.6%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Ukraine (with a CAGR of +233.4%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest ferro-manganese suppliers to China were Japan ($X), Vietnam ($X) and the United States ($X), with a combined 95% share of total imports. South Korea, Ukraine and France lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 1.3%.
Ukraine, with a CAGR of +73.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average ferro-manganese import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 177% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a measured increase. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for Ukraine ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+13.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
