Expansible Polystyrene Price in Turkey (FOB) - 2023

In July 2023, the average expansible polystyrene export price amounted to $1,406 per ton, dropping by -3.3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in January 2023 when the average export price increased by 3.2% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $2,584 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the countries with the highest prices were the UK ($1,856 per ton) and Austria ($1,743 per ton), while the average price for exports to Israel ($1,287 per ton) and Belgium ($1,311 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (-3.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Expansible Polystyrene Price in Turkey (CIF) - 2023

In July 2023, the average expansible polystyrene import price amounted to $1,417 per ton, dropping by -6.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 6.5% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $2,266 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to July 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($2,428 per ton), while the price for Russia ($1,143 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (-1.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.

Expansible Polystyrene Exports in Turkey

In 2022, shipments abroad of expansible polystyrene in primary forms decreased by -4.6% to 147K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, saw significant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 50%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 154K tons, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

In value terms, expansible polystyrene exports amounted to $323M in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 177%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Expansible Polystyrene Imports in Turkey

In 2022, expansible polystyrene imports into Turkey shrank notably to 22K tons, waning by -17.7% on the previous year. Over the period under review, imports saw a abrupt decline. The smallest decline of -5.1% was in 2020.

In value terms, expansible polystyrene imports shrank to $47M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 49%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $50M, and then contracted in the following year.
