Exercise Book Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2021
In December 2021, the average exercise book import price amounted to $1,593 per ton, therefore, remained relatively stable against the previous month. Over the period from December 2020 to December 2021, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2021 when the average import price increased by 20% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $1,863 per ton. From July 2021 to December 2021, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the country with the highest price was China ($1,601 per ton), while the price for Singapore ($1,000 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Exercise Book Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2021
In December 2021, the average exercise book export price amounted to $2,625 per ton, growing by 52% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated measured growth from December 2020 to December 2021: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.8% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, exercise book export price increased by +86.1% against October 2021 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Brunei Darussalam ($3,246 per ton), while the average price for exports to Fiji ($1,576 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Fiji (+25.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Exercise Book Imports in Malaysia
After three years of growth, supplies from abroad of exercise books decreased by -6% to 6.6K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 14%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 7K tons, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, exercise book imports dropped to $9.3M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +9.0% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +29.6% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $11M, and then shrank in the following year.
