Dried Onion Price in Russia (CIF) - 2022

The average dried onion import price stood at $2,352 per ton in January 2022, growing by 4.6% against the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2021 an increase of 9% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $2,571 per ton in February 2021; however, from March 2021 to January 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2022, the country with the highest price was China ($2,465 per ton), while the price for India totaled $2,325 per ton.

From January 2021 to January 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+1.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Dried Onion Price in Russia (FOB) - 2022

The average dried onion export price stood at $1,931 per ton in 2022, waning by -16.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when the average export price increased by 12%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $4,681 per ton. From 2015 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ukraine ($3,561 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belarus ($1,587 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine (-0.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Dried Onion Imports in Russia

In 2022, overseas purchases of dried onions increased by 2.5% to 6.3K tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, showed a perceptible shrinkage.

In value terms, dried onion imports reduced to $13M in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 4.9% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $13M, and then reduced modestly in the following year.

Dried Onion Exports in Russia

In 2022, exports of dried onions from Russia expanded markedly to 273 tons, picking up by 7.5% against 2021. Overall, total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +14.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +48.0% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, dried onion exports contracted to $528K in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 26%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $589K, and then contracted in the following year.
