Currant and Gooseberry Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023

The average currant and gooseberry import price stood at $4,703 per ton in September 2023, leveling off at the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price continues to indicate a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2023 when the average import price increased by 1.6% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $5,207 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to September 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Colombia.

From December 2022 to September 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Colombia amounted to +0.2% per month.

Currant and Gooseberry Price in the United States (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average currant and gooseberry export price amounted to $1,836 per ton, which is down by -5.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 37% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,209 per ton. From 2020 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Mexico ($2,208 per ton), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($1,000 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Mexico (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Currant and Gooseberry Imports in the United States

For the fourth consecutive year, the United States recorded growth in purchases abroad of currants and gooseberries, which increased by 24% to 1.3K tons in 2022. In general, imports saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, currant and gooseberry imports soared to $6.4M in 2022. Overall, imports enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 46%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

As a result, the exports reached the peak of 703 tons, and then reduced sharply in the following year.

In value terms, currant and gooseberry exports contracted dramatically to $320K in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 487%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $1.4M, and then shrank remarkably in the following year.
