Crude Oil Price in Malaysia (FOB) - 2021
In December 2021, the average crude oil export price amounted to $614 per ton, stabilizing at the previous month. In general, export price indicated a remarkable increase from December 2020 to December 2021: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +5.5% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, crude oil export price increased by +89.6% against December 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2021 when the average export price increased by 14% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in December 2021.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In December 2021, the highest price was recorded for prices to Indonesia ($718 per ton) and India ($628 per ton), while the average price for exports to Japan ($597 per ton) and Australia ($608 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brunei Darussalam (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Crude Oil Price in Malaysia (CIF) - 2021
In December 2021, the average crude oil import price amounted to $600 per ton, waning by -4.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a tangible increase from December 2020 to December 2021: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.9% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2021 figures, crude oil import price decreased by -4.9% against November 2021 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2021 an increase of 24% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $631 per ton in November 2021, and then declined modestly in the following month.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In December 2021, the countries with the highest prices were Thailand ($622 per ton) and Brunei Darussalam ($620 per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($581 per ton) and Sudan ($582 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From December 2020 to December 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Iraq (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Crude Oil Exports in Malaysia
In 2022, overseas shipments of crude petroleum oil were finally on the rise to reach 12M tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a abrupt curtailment.
In value terms, crude oil exports declined to $5B in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 11% against the previous year.

Crude Oil Imports in Malaysia
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in supplies from abroad of crude petroleum oil, when their volume increased by 45% to 9.5M tons. In general, imports, however, recorded a deep setback.
In value terms, crude oil imports surged to $4B in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt descent.
