Crude Oil Price in Brazil (FOB) - 2023
The average crude oil export price stood at $463 per ton in August 2023, approximately equating the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 an increase of 0.2% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $674 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($530 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($327 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (-1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Crude Oil Price in Brazil (CIF) - 2023
In August 2023, the average crude oil import price amounted to $801 per ton, rising by 32% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $844 per ton in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to August 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Angola ($687 per ton) and Ghana ($657 per ton), while the price for Algeria ($608 per ton) and Argentina ($619 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ghana (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
Crude Oil Exports in Brazil
In 2022, crude oil exports from Brazil rose to 69M tons, increasing by 2.5% against 2021. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 18% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 70M tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, crude oil exports skyrocketed to $42.7B in 2022. In general, exports showed significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 56%. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
