Couscous Price in Nigeria (CIF) - 2022
In 2022, the average couscous import price amounted to $1,945 per ton, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, couscous import price increased by +68.8% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 64%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was France ($2,044 per ton), while the price for Morocco ($1,374 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Niger (+11.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Couscous Price in Nigeria (FOB) - 2022
The average couscous export price stood at $1,253 per ton in 2022, growing by 15% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the average export price increased by 302% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $4,859 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Canada ($1,796 per ton), while the average price for exports to France ($521 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Israel (+25.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
Couscous Imports in Nigeria
In 2022, couscous imports into Nigeria expanded modestly to 9.9 tons, increasing by 2.2% on 2021. Overall, imports, however, saw a dramatic curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 81% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 352 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, couscous imports expanded to $19K in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a sharp reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 85% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $413K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Couscous Exports in Nigeria
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in shipments abroad of couscous, when their volume decreased by -30.3% to 7.5 tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 153% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 11 tons, and then declined remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, couscous exports shrank dramatically to $9.4K in 2022. Overall, exports, however, recorded a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 126% against the previous year.
